Nobody Girl

Mum bought me this wicked skirt last year in Wellington at Recycle Boutique while she was up there for World Of Wearable Arts. Its one of my favourite shops no matter what city it is in, there is always an awesome find hidden somewhere, the hunt just makes it even more fun. This skirt basically rode me the whole way through second semester last year, it is so warm and goes with just about anything!

I managed to find a wee spot to take photos luckily, I despise taking photos indoors, they always turn out crap and the lighting is always horrible. This is the first set I have taken since moving down to Dunedin and I was terrified. At home I took photos on self timer around the garden etc when nobody was too aware of it. Here however is different, self timer in public is awkward. I will look absolutely mental when someone rounds the corner while I am taking photos. That has not happened yet though! Fingers crossed it wont

Come Pick Me Up

These togs are River Island that I bought last year on asos. Sadly for me I didn't actually go swimming at all while I was home during the summer. However when I returned home for a few days before o week I swore to myself that I simply HAD to go for a dip in the river. It was freezing

Even manged to keep my black lab, Jock out of the water long enough for some cute as selfies

Let it rain over me

It is finally here! And I can honestly say 'thank the lord!!'
This raincoat is the most difficult thing I have ever made by a country mile. Sewing plastic is not easy people. This is the result of blood, sweat and the odd tear due to the immense frustration it caused. The plastic stuck to the wooden table, the sewing machine itself, other pieces of plastic and even to me when it got a bit full of static due to the heat and friction etc. On top of that pins are obviously a no go so I had to paper clip the set in sleeves before sewing them. These took me a good hour each to get right due to the fact that puncturing holes in plastic is not particularly forgiving so it had to be right the first time.
Enough wining though, I am so happy with it!

I originally intended on raglan sleeves but I left my pattern drafting book at the flat when I was t home doing this and through a few attempts, it became apparent that is wasn't something I could just 'whip up.' So I persevered with a set sleeve and just fiddled around with the collar instead. The pattern had a mandarin collar so I just lengthened it lots so lets just say its a hybrid. Cross between a mandarin and a shirt collar, just without the stand and such?
Whats your opinion? Yay or nay?

Call out the sun

I had a few jobs to do around town the other day and it was ridiculously warm, not impressed. I felt a bit overdressed in heels but I didn't bring any flats home, all class this trip instead.

Found a fault with the clutch though, it gets extremely soft on a hot day so kind of bends around your hand. BUT! Its ok because it still looks really effective

My Winding Wheel

Seriously, how could anybody ever resist.
I don't believe in love at first sight but this was different ok.

Tina Toledo's Street Walkin' Blues

After spending a few days at the flat I came back home to hang out with the family seeing as I don't start uni for a week or so yet anyway. Its been quite nice to be home and not be working, everything is so chilled. So yeah, anyway this is what I wore for the 3 hour bus ride home.

Not going to lie, these are my favourite ever jeans. However because of the demon known as 'fresher 5' I haven't been able to wear them for nearly a year! Luckily I convinced that 5 to bugger off and now they fit again and everyone is happy. Even the demon, despite it being exercised. Ha, see what I did there!

Tears of Gold

Before we all started moving back to Uni, our group of kids all caught up one last time for a few drinks at a friends house. Such a great night, its always good to see everybody together!

I got this hi-lo top from asos. I looooove it, I did however think it wasn't quite so sheer. It shows freckles people! Therefore a singlet is obviously necessary, I would prefer a bandeau but those freckles are not getting there 15 minutes of fame.

Luckily it also just 'happens' to go with my gold stilettos. It must be fate

Full circle

Last year I made this circle skirt as a wee project one weekend I came home from uni. In reality it took about an hour, not the whole weekend. I honestly believe I could no longer live without it. Its fabulous in all situations and seems to create a punk vibe in a girly way? Surely the idea would be to pick one or the other right? NO. Its far more versatile this way you see. Hence the above outfit being my uniform when it comes to the "I have nothing to wear" days.

I used bias binding instead of facing the waistband and hemming the bottom because...
1. Its the easy option
2. It adds colour and pattern
3. Have you ever tried hemming against the grain? It does not end well

I scored this bag for $2 a couple of years ago. I was quite impressed with my bargain hunting skills

Here and now

Just before I left work we all went out for tea as a wee celebration before us uni kids moved off around the countryside. It was such a great night and of course, pretty warm

I found some dirt cheap fabric on sale and had been wanting a cheeky crop backed shirt for a wee while. Putting two and two making one was the logical outcome. It is super comfy and pretty which is always a nice change, even better when you can counteract 'pretty' with leather!
